The park derives its name after one of the former Prime Ministers of India, Indira Gandhi. It later became accessible to the public in 1978 and is one of the oldest parks situated in Hyderabad. In 1994, the Indira Park introduced certain additions which added to the popularity of this green space in the heart of the city, such as computerized musical fountains, a rock garden, a nursery and a rose garden.
